DescriptionConstance Chatterly is deeply unhappy; married to an invalid, she is almost as inwardly paralyzed as her husband Clifford is paralyzed from below the waist. She finds refuge and regeneration in the arms of Mellors the gamekeeper. But can she break out against the constraints of society? Author descriptionD.H. Lawrence was born in 1885 in Nottingham, into a miner's family. He trained as a teacher, but had his first book, THE WHITE PEACOCK, published in 1908 after the death of his beloved mother. Illness forced him to give up teaching, and he travelled round Europe with his German wife Frieda. He died in France in 1930, but was amazingly prolific. His novels include SONS AND LOVERS, THE RAINBOW, and WOMEN IN LOVE, and many more short stories, poems, plays, and essays. |
